  1. Jim,
I met you last night (Jack Schroeder) from Braidwood. Is this the class you are mentioned to me and are teaching? If so I’m going to sign up.
    Thanks, JACK

This is the first of two classes offered in the spring and summer for any person interested in learning about beekeeping. The classes are designed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to be successful as a beekeeper in today’s challenging environment. No previous experience with honey bees is necessary, though beekeepers with some experience will benefit. The class is presented as a combination of classroom presentations and hands-on experience in the apiary with live honey bee colonies. Instructors are successful local beekeepers with over 40 years of experience between them. Classes are held at the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center where a teaching apiary is maintained. After completing both Beekeeping I and II, the student will be exposed to the management techniques and practices necessary to keep a colony healthy and productive throughout the changing seasons and into the winter. Topics covered will be: equipment for beekeeping, honey bee biology, acquiring your bees, managing your colony and pest and disease management.

For information on the summer Beginning Beekeeping II class, contact Brenda Large at blarge@jjc.edu or 815-280-1504.
